When School’s Out… We Paddle Out 🌊
Last Friday, while LAUSD school gates stayed closed, the ocean was wide open.
With school closures across LA, we decided to do what we do best, turn a day off into a surf day. We ran a special “Days Off” surf camp, built just like a summer camp day. Same energy, same structure, just a little more spontaneous.
And honestly? It might have been one of our favorite days of the season so far.
From the moment campers hit the sand, the vibe was high. There is something about an unexpected day at the beach that just hits different. No routines, no rush, just pure stoke. Groms who could have been stuck at home instead spent the day in the water, cheering each other on, building confidence, and getting a whole lot of waves.
And the waves showed up for us.
Clean conditions, playful sets, and plenty of opportunities for everyone, from total beginners to progressing surfers. Our coaches kept groups tight and supportive, focusing on fun first as always, while making sure each camper walked away better than when they arrived. The highlight of the day was watching a six year old catch his very first wave and ride it all the way to the sand.
What stood out most, though, was the energy everyone brought.
New friendships formed quickly. Kids who started the day a little unsure were leaving the water smiling, sandy, and asking when they could come back. It had that classic summer camp feel, where time slows down just enough, and the only thing that matters is the next wave.
These are the days we love.
Not just because of the surfing, but because of what happens around it. The confidence, the connection, the joy of being outside and in the ocean.
We hope to see everyone at summer camp this season.
